{"id":8,"date":"2008-07-12T15:02:58","date_gmt":"2008-07-12T19:02:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/grimmfamilytales.com\/?p=8"},"modified":"2008-07-17T13:08:14","modified_gmt":"2008-07-17T17:08:14","slug":"pictures-of-pictures-and-a-cow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/grimmfamilytales.com\/index.php\/pictures-of-pictures-and-a-cow\/","title":{"rendered":"Pictures of Pictures and a Cow!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Today we did some sightseeing, which means I have something other than pictures of food and elevator instructions to share.<span> <\/span>We started with a trip to the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum.<span> <\/span>We took the metro (subway) there and had to go down the steepest, longest escalator I\u2019ve ever seen.<span> <\/span>Heights don\u2019t normally bother me, but I looked down once and that was it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3087\/2661063927_381f658d1d.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The metro popped us out right near this beautiful church.<span> <\/span>I did some digging after I got back to my hotel room and learned that it is the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.<span> <\/span>The church was built in 1997.<span> <\/span>For 50 years before that, this site was home to the world\u2019s largest swimming pool (this might be important to know if you\u2019re ever on Jeopardy).<span> <\/span>It took two years and $350 million to complete the construction of the cathedral.<span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3066\/2661064115_8c4188d663.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: left;\">There\u2019s a park surrounding the cathedral and there were tons of newlyweds getting their photos taken.<span> <\/span>I played paparazzi and snuck some pictures of them as well.<span> <\/span>This isn\u2019t even close to all of the ones I saw today either.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3219\/2661892552_574ec3e29f.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Okay, back to the museum.<span> <\/span>Pushkin is Moscow\u2019s premier foreign-art museum.<span> <\/span>We saw some really beautiful paintings by some really famous artists.<span> <\/span>Unfortunately I didn\u2019t realize until we were more than halfway through the museum that non-flash photography was allowed.<span> <\/span>So I missed taking pictures of some of my favorites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3292\/2661064325_553678deeb.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"386\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3164\/2661890104_9a3e699204.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3232\/2661064933_a385556e2f.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: left;\">I wasn&#8217;t trying to get artsy with this next one.  It was the only way to keep the glare off of the photo though.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3256\/2661890634_e4cf4804ab.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: left;\">This is just a building that was across the street from the museum.<span> <\/span>I have no idea what it is, but I really like the color of it.<span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3003\/2661066607_9367f25486.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: left;\">After the museum we sort of wandered around for a while.<span> <\/span>I didn\u2019t realize how close we were to the Kremlin.<span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3273\/2661890790_d626977f4f.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: left;\">And after some more walking, we were even closer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3147\/2661065459_c24b78ea94.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3157\/2661891204_6048170e71.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tomorrow we have a tour set up of the Kremlin and Armory, so I\u2019ll be even closer then.<span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">We took the metro halfway back to our hotel and then walked the rest of the way.<span> <\/span>We went down a street called Old Arbat (Moscow\u2019s most famous street!), which is full of souvenir vendors and street artists.<span> <\/span>I would have pictures for you, but my camera was acting up and refusing to focus.<span> <\/span>No worries though, it turned out to be operator error and so we\u2019re back on speaking terms now.<span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Old Arbat ends at my grocery store.<span> <\/span>It\u2019s so close to our hotel that I\u2019ll definitely be going back some night after work.<span> <\/span>I need to do my souvenir (my dream is to someday be able to spell that stupid word without having to look it up) shopping and it\u2019s great for people watching.<span> <\/span>Plus, this cow lives on Old Arbat, so how could I not go back?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3211\/2661891394_a0dfd18eb3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: left;\">I think it&#8217;s a MosCOW.  Ha ha!
