Our Weekend

We had a very busy weekend. On Saturday, we started our day with Adam’s t-ball game. Then we went to Lowe’s to pick up a kit for him to build a dragon. He had to miss the actual workshop, since it was the same time as his game. The employee that normally runs the building workshops saved a kit for Adam at the customer service desk.

Then we went to Toys R Us, so that Adam could take part in a Lego event they were hosting. While he and Dave were building, I walked around the store with Luke and Maggie. Luke had gotten a coupon from Toys R Us for his birthday, so I let him pick out a new train.

I was pretty excited when we found this train on clearance. We didn’t have James (that’s the train’s name) yet and he’s red (Luke’s current favorite color).

After the Lego event, we went to lunch and then out for frozen yogurt.

Sunday morning Dave and Adam built the dragon kit we’d picked up the day before. Then we went out to spend some time at the playground. It was our first time visiting this playground, and the kids loved it.

Dave did too. That’s him with Luke in the top of what Adam called, “the lookout”, and yes, he got out of the lookout by going down that big slide.

After the playground we went back to the house. Dave had soccer to watch and Father’s Day snacks to consume.

Lego Club Meeting

Last month we took Adam to his first Lego Club Meeting. My parents watched Luke and Maggie, so Dave and I were able to spend some one-on-one time together with Adam.

The meeting had a Star Wars theme. The kids were broken in to groups by age and given a bin full of bricks to build a space vehicle with.

While the kids were building, a store employee walked around and asked them trivia questions about Star Wars. If they got their question right, they got a Lego minifigure. Adam correctly identified one of Anakin Skywalker’s children (with a hint from us, it helps to have a brother named Luke – he was a little disappointed to learn that Luke’s sister is named Leia, not Maggie).

20140524_093405After all the kids were done building, they gathered around a table and each child took a turn showing off their creation. Adam was the only one to re-purpose a Lego frying pan as a gun for his ship.

20140524_092806Each of the kids got a goody bag before they left. Adam got a Lego Star Wars t-shirt, a small Lego kit, and an R2-D2 key chain, in addition to the minifigure he got from answering his question.

They didn’t get to keep their creations, but we did let him fill a bucket from the pick-a-brick wall before we left. Dave, I mean Adam, also got a Lego kit of the Millennium Falcon before we left.

On our way to the Lego event, Adam was talking about all of the things you can make with Lego bricks. He named a few things and then said that they only thing you couldn’t make was a Leaning Tower of Pisa, because it would fall over. So it was pretty funny later, when we found one on display in the store.

There were a lot of fun displays to look at and Adam added a few things to his birthday wish list as we walked around.

20140524_102154We’ll have to miss the June Lego Club meeting, but we already have him signed up for the July one. He doesn’t know about it yet, but it’s a couple of days before his birthday and that month’s theme is Ninja Turtles. He’s asked me repeatedly if he can have a Lego Ninja Turtle birthday cake (a giant cookie cake to be more specific), so I am totally going to take the credit and tell him that the club meeting was special for his birthday. 🙂

Batting Clean Up

Each time Adam gets to a base while he’s playing t-ball, he picks it up and dumps all of the dirt off of it. It’s pretty funny and I finally remembered to get a video of it at his game on Monday.

He told me it’s because he doesn’t like it when the base has rocks on it. He’s a nut.

(That squeaking you hear is what happens when the kids jump on the base.)

Luke’s Uniform

I wasn’t kidding about Luke being picky about his clothing. My mom was able to get him in to shorts last weekend though. The number one rule about Luke wearing shorts is that no one mentions that Luke is wearing shorts.

At least I can still dress Maggie.

Go Race

This morning, Luke walked in to my bedroom holding a waffle that he’d stolen from the freezer. When I reprimanded him for it, he held it out like a steering wheel and said, “It not waffle, it a car mommy”, and then he drove away.

Whenever we go outside Luke asks if he can “go race.” That means drive around on the tricycle or in his red car. The car is his favorite mode of transportation.

Luke is very particular about his clothing lately. Most days he wants to wear a red shirt with an airplane on it (thankfully we have two, one is Adam’s). He will also accept a red shirt with a train on it, or a blue shirt with an airplane.

He’s also very anti-shorts lately. Whenever I do manage to get him in to a pair he tries to pull them down to cover the rest of his legs. When that doesn’t work, he insists on changing in to pants. I tried to trick him the one day by pointing out how Adam was wearing shorts and making a big deal about it. Luke looked at him and said, “Wow, nice job Adam! Look good!”

Luke is also one of Adam’s biggest fans at t-ball. He loves pointing out the numbers on the back of the kids’ shirts.

He’s pretty fantastic.

12 Month Checkup

Little Miss had her 12 month check up today. She was so good. She didn’t cry at all while the nurse took her measurements and didn’t even mind the doctor (she was not a fan last time). She didn’t make a peep when she got a shot either.

2014-05-19 15.50.55

She’s clapping in this picture, it was taken before she learned about this next part

Maggie had to have blood work done this visit, to check for anemia and lead. The phlebotomist commented on what a pretty baby she was (because she is) and said he sees a lot of babies in his line of work and she was definitely near the top of the list (I think he must have meant “at the top of the list”). His flattery did not work on Margaret. As soon as he put the needle in her arm to draw blood, she decided they WERE NOT going to be friends.
