Maggie brought this bear home yesterday. It says “Love is learning to be kind. Love is to love each other. Love is my baby sister.” I love it.♡

Adam had an aquarium themed math project to do this week. Based on the measurements of his tank, he had to calculate how many gallons of water it could hold. He also had to figure out the surface area of the water. Then with that information, and some other parameters of the assignment, he determined how many fish could live in the tank.

And here’s our crew at the bus stop this morning. Hopefully they’re all having a fantastic day.

Maggie’s teacher (who was also Adam and Luke’s first grade teacher) is a huge fan of Dr. Seuss. Since today was Read Across America Day (in honor of his birthday), I knew they’d being doing fun things in class to celebrate. So I made Maggie a special Seuss sweatshirt to wear to school.

I already had the panel with the quote on it and the Cat in the Hat fabric. I needed plain red though and wanted something else to go with it all.

So Maggie and I took a trip to the store and she picked out the blue flowered material. I love how well everything came together.

I had enough fabric leftover to make a shirt for Annie too.

I finished it last night and she wore it to story time at the library today.

After story time she wanted to build a big house with some of the magnetic toys they have there. I think we did a great job.

Annie was most excited to knock it all down. (She actually saw these pictures as I was getting this post ready and said, “I knock down house” and started laughing.)

I think both girls had super fun days today (and looked super cute too).

Maggie’s class made Abe Lincoln style log cabins out of pretzel sticks to celebrate Presidents’ Day.

Based on our visit to Lincoln’s birthplace in January, I’d say she’s spot on.

Last night Maggie came downstairs and told us, “JoJo wants to sleep with me, but she has her Kindle. I keep telling her it’s bedtime and I can’t watch a show and she just keeps saying ‘shhhhh.'”

So we took Annie’s Kindle away from her and sent them back upstairs. When I checked on them a little while later, they were fast asleep – and looking adorable.

Maggie brought home this worksheet. I think it’s pretty adorable (even if I’m not mentioned).

I did blur out her friend’s last name. I think it’s adorable though how she always refers to Claire by her first and last name.

They had to pick if they could have any kind of feet, what type they would want and why. Maggie said she wanted kangaroo feet because she loves jumping.

Luke’s had a few headaches recently, occurring near the end of the school day, and so we decided to get his eyes checked.

He had his appointment last night and it turns out he’s slightly farsighted. So the doctor recommended glasses for reading, doing homework, and when he’s playing handheld video games – just to ease the strain on his eyes a bit.

Luke picked out these fun black frames with blue sides. They look pretty fantastic on him.

They had the lenses in stock, so he was able to get his new specs last night. Even more fun, they let him go back and hit the buttons on the lens cutting machine. So Luke actually got to make his own glasses.

He put them to use right away while doing his spelling homework with my mom. They have a standing spelling homework phone date each week.

Luke was actually pretty excited that he needed glasses. He’s always loved wearing fake glasses (we have a couple of pairs without lenses in the dress up bin). So he was thrilled to have a reason to wear them – and to school even!

He told us last night that when he has his glasses on he would like us to call him Andrew. Apparently he’s got like a Superman/Clark Kent sort of thing going on. We’ll see how long that lasts for – he cracks me up.

One of the questions on a worksheet Luke brought home today asked him to write about a job he would like to qualify for and the steps he’d need to take to get it. Luke wrote:

I would like to qualify to be a manger. Frist I would have to go to college. Second, I would get rich-ish. Then get workers to build me a resteruant. Last buy a fancy suit.

Sounds like a solid plan.

Yesterday was a pretty full day for us. The morning started with Annie and I going to the monthly awards assembly at the kids’ school. Maggie received a reading certificate, but I didn’t get any pictures. This was the only one I got – Annie trying to sneak into Maggie’s classroom afterwards.

Annie and I had just enough time before story time at the library to pick up some groceries.

She was thrilled to find (and push) a cart her size. She only added one extra item – a box of Mickey Mouse ice cream bars.

When the kids got home from school I snapped some pictures of Maggie wearing the shirt I made her over the weekend.

We’re big fans of Mo Willems in this house – especially his Elephant and Piggie books.

After our little photo shoot it was time for her to get ready for dance class.

It was pajama day and she was so excited to wear her super cozy unicorn PJs. I asked her to do two ballet poses.

Then I asked for a Maggie pose.

After dance, it was home for dinner and homework. Maggie and I ran out to grab some fabric for her next shirt (yes, she was still in her pajamas). When we got home we found Dave helping Adam with his science homework with a makeshift solar system model.

It was a long, busy, good day.

Maggie had her last basketball game of the season on Saturday. She had her best game yet and made three baskets. That’s one more than her total for all of last year, so there’s definitely been a big improvement.

She’s really good at passing the ball (and might need some work on dribbling).

I managed to get a video of one of those three baskets.

She had a great season – and a lot of fun too.

On Sunday they had their awards ceremony.

Maggie was so excited to walk across the stage and get her medal. The announcer even commented on her “strut” (you can see it here, even though the picture is blurry).

She was so proud – and rightfully so!

Annie and Dave had a lunch date Friday while I was at the dentist. I’m not sure what happened to my baby, but she’s gotten so big all of the sudden!
