{"id":15,"date":"2008-07-22T15:26:56","date_gmt":"2008-07-22T19:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/grimmfamilytales.com\/?p=15"},"modified":"2008-07-22T16:29:49","modified_gmt":"2008-07-22T20:29:49","slug":"are-cucumbers-a-fruit-or-a-vegetable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/grimmfamilytales.com\/index.php\/are-cucumbers-a-fruit-or-a-vegetable\/","title":{"rendered":"Are cucumbers a fruit or a vegetable?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Before we were given our &#8220;free time&#8221; at the cucumber festival our tour guide insisted on telling us all about Suzdal&#8217;s Museum of Wooden Architecture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3149\/2686695558_788d34fc16.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Any other day I would have been much more interested in hearing about how the umbilical cords of baby boys used to be cut with a knife, while girls&#8217; were cut with scissors (because boys did manly things like hunt and kill things and girls sewed), but not when the cucumber festival was waiting!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3220\/2686696334_e448b37109.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Finally we were allowed to explore the festival.  Our long winded tour guide gave us a whopping 45 minutes of free time.  If she&#8217;d have cut out the umbilical cord talk we might have had a full hour.  I still was able to see most of the festival &#8211; very quickly.  I wasn&#8217;t able to browse all the crafty stands like I would have liked to or even stop to eat a single cucumber!  I know, I know, what a shame (not really, I don&#8217;t like cucumbers, or pickles, or younger siblings that eat pickles and then chase you around the house and breathe on you).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I did get to listen to some music.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2151\/2685881263_488ca96550.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And see people dressed up in cucumber garb.  Some just accessorized with hats.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3197\/2685881473_913dd65540.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And others went all out.  It really was a family affair.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3231\/2685884089_c53e6e8898.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There were puppet shows.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3234\/2686696634_5d12d0f45b.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And Mr. <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">Potato<\/span> Cucumber Heads.  Can you see the stuffed cucumbers next to them?  Did you have any idea how versatile the cucumber was?  Remember from <em>Forrest Gump<\/em>?  You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saut\u00e9 it. There are cucumber-kabobs, cucumber creole, cucumber gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There&#8217;s pineapple cucumber, lemon cucumber, coconut cucumber, pepper cucumber, cucumber soup, cucumber stew, cucumber salad, cucumber and potatoes, cucumber burger, cucumber sandwich.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">No wait, that was shrimp.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3145\/2685884401_5a0e8756ac.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Check out this lovely quilt!! Imagine the fantastic cucumber dreams you&#8217;d have sleeping underneath it!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3107\/2686697674_b7ed6f1616.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And at then end of the day, they made me their queen!!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3156\/2685884673_f7f0539c6e.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>Cucumbers (<\/em><em>Cucumis sativus) are a widely cultivated plant in the gourd family.
