School Days

The kids loved picking out what they’d wear for crazy hat day. Adam’s had a stuffed rabbit hidden in it, so he was doing “magic” all day. Maggie was especially thrilled because she’d been asking to wear those Minnie Mouse ears since school started.

Luke reached the next milestone in the school’s reading program. He was so excited to get his trophy.

Adam had his first big project of the year. He had to create a poster that showed healthy meal options. In case you’re wondering, the apples are the only thing on that sign that he’d actually eat.

Who you calling chicken?

I made the girls a set of matching chicken dresses (though not identical, because Maggie’s has pockets and Annie’s does not – much to Maggie’s dismay).

I wasn’t planning on making two, but realized after I cut out Maggie’s I had almost enough fabric to make one for Annie too. A quick trip to the store for more yellow fabric and we were in business.

The dresses turned out adorable, despite me originally sewing the sleeves to Annie’s dress into the top of Maggie’s.

We did a little photo shoot at a park near out house. Maggie loved exploring the barn.

And here are the dresses in action. They wore them to church last weekend and got a lot of compliments.

Sew What

Before I started kindergarten, my aunt and my mom made a couple of dresses for me. I wore this brown one on my first day of school and it’s why I really wanted to Maggie to have a special handmade dress for her first day.

And I haven’t been able to stop sewing. This was her second day of school outfit. I let Maggie pick out the fabric she helped me sew it, and a matching one for her cousin Jes.

The skirt is actually reversible and is tie dye on the other side.

This dinosaur fabric was supposed to be a dress. I bought the fabric when Maggie was three though, and she’s grown a little since then, so skirt it was.

There was just enough left to make a matching outfit for her doll, Fruity.

My aunt made this cute pink dress. It’s also reversible and the other side is blue with white polka dots.

This little red car has tons of miles on it.

It’s Annie’s preferred mode of transportation to and from the bus stop each day.

This llama dress is another favorite of Maggie’s. She has since requested that every dress have pockets.

I know that Maggie won’t always think mama-made dresses are cool, but I’m going to take advantage of it while I can.
