Today 03.16.15

Luke had a doctor’s appointment today to check his ears. He still has fluid in both ears, so we go back in six weeks for another follow-up appointment. If it’s still present, then they’re going to look in to putting tubes in his ears.

2015-03-16 08.04.32

Since the weather has been nice, we’ve been going for long walks before getting Adam from the bus stop. Maggie and Luke normally both fall asleep before the walk is over. Today Maggie was out before we were even at the end of our street. Luke held on for about 20 minutes.

2015-03-16 14.31.30

I wrote Adam’s sight words and the numbers 1-10 on the driveway in chalk. I called out the words for Adam and the numbers for Luke and the two of them ran all over to find them.  (It was 70 degrees here, so don’t be too concerned with Adam’s lack of shoes.)

2015-03-16 18.12.52

Adam made this super cool drawing of Mickey Mouse.

2015-03-16 18.38.14

I let the kids each have a cookie for dessert tonight. Maggie thoroughly enjoyed hers.

It’s a trap

I attempted to get a good picture of the three kids after church today. It didn’t work as well as I would have liked, but they did look cute.

2015-03-15 11.38.33 2015-03-15 11.40.05

Adam combined his snack with a craft and made a St. Patrick’s Day rainbow necklace.

2015-03-15 15.26.34 2015-03-15 15.43.36

Making the necklace prompted a lot of talk about rainbows, leprechauns, and pots of gold. Adam decided to make a leprechaun trap, so we can try to catch a leprechaun this year. First he drew up his plans, then he got to work building it.

2015-03-15 16.40.44

The final product evolved a bit as he was making it, but did stay pretty close to his original sketch.

2015-03-15 16.44.24

He made the stairs look like a rainbow, to trick the leprechaun into following them. At the top, we placed a layer of tissue.

2015-03-15 16.54.29

Once the leprechaun gets to the top of the rainbow stairs, he will see the gold and run toward it, the tissue will break, and he’ll fall into our trap.

2015-03-15 16.56.45Adam plans on making the leprechaun a rainbow cereal necklace (because he’ll probably be hungry) and then asking him where his gold is hidden.

I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Busy Bees

Today was so busy that I’m afraid just writing about it is going to make me tired again. We started out building more monster trucks at Lowe’s.

20150314_105909 20150314_105941 20150314_110244

Then we went to the library for some Lego fun.

20150314_113810 20150314_120201

After that, we had to do some grocery shopping. The kids were very excited when we stumbled upon the free samples of mini cupcakes.

20150314_123831

This was all before lunch. So after we put the groceries away and ate, it was time for (much needed) naps.

20150314_143259

We spent the rest of our day tidying up toys and drawing with crayons. Adam was very excited when he noticed that the white marigold seed he planted during church school last week had sprouted.

20150314_194356

And Luke just wanted his picture taken too, “Lukey too! Lukey too!”

20150314_194410

Could it be spring?

A little bit of rain didn’t stop us from spending some time outside today. It was 50 degrees here today, the warmest it’s been in a while.

2015-03-10 13.49.17 2015-03-10 13.58.10 2015-03-10 14.03.23 2015-03-10 14.04.06 2015-03-10 14.09.54 2015-03-10 14.09.57Afterwards we went back inside for dry clothes and snacks. Maggie would have stayed outside all day if I’d let her though, she was having a blast.

A Banner St. Paddy’s Day

Adam and I, with some “help” from Maggie, made a St. Patrick’s Day banner for our fireplace.

20150228_200044

We started with a pre-made banner I got at Target (on clearance for $2 – woo hoo), and added some foam shamrocks from the dollar store.

20150304_162015

Adam glued the shamrocks on and then we let them dry overnight.

20150304_162023

The next day we strung it all together.

20150305_182256 20150305_182339

Originally, we were going to put a shamrock on each flag, but decided to just do every other one.

20150305_184447

I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, especially since it was so easy (and cheap!) to make.

Adam is still on the fence. He told me he “wasn’t sure about having those two clover ones next to each other in the middle”, but that he thinks he likes it.

Bookends

Luke was so excited to be dressed like Adam today.

Adam was disappointed that they weren’t wearing the same socks. He told me if they were, then I’d never be able to tell them apart.

2015-03-07 09.50.59

They had a workshop this morning at Home Depot.

1, 2, skip a few, 99, 100

Adam came home from school one day last week with two stickers on his shirt.

2015-03-03 14.36.28

One was because he knows all of his sight words.

20150228_132313And the other was for being able to count to 100. He was able to do that before he started kindergarten, but his teacher has been testing them on it lately.  They are also learning to count by tens (which he can do), by fives (he’s pretty good with that, but needs some work), and by twos (this is new for him, but he’s picking it up pretty quickly). Smarty pants.

Our Weekend

Friday night, Adam put together the snacks for his game the next day. Each player was assigned a week to bring treats. Adam picked goldfish crackers, yogurt covered raisins, and mini bottles of water.

20150227_173525After the snacks were packed up, he watched his Uncle Rob (or Rock, as my kids call him) coach his basketball team in their game.

20150227_195812

Adam watched the whole game. He kept me updated on the score and cheered loudly when Rob’s team made a basket. He also yelled at the players when they missed shots. It was pretty fantastic to see him so interested in the game.

20150227_202222Unfortunately, our team lost – even though Adam tried to adjust the score on the computer screen.

Saturday morning, the boys had a workshop at Lowe’s.

20150228_103152They built monster trucks.

20150228_103941

Adam built his almost entirely on his own. I didn’t even need to start the nails for him this time. He had me take out two nails, when he realized he made mistakes, but other than that, he did all the work. I did get to help with a couple of the stickers when it came time to decorate the truck, but that was as much as I was allowed to do.

I’m so proud of how well he does with these workshops. He really does a great job following the instructions and using the hammer.

20150228_110419

Luke is on track to follow in Adam’s footsteps too. I start the nails, let him hammer them in as far as he can, and then normally just give them a final tap (to be sure they won’t scratch him or snag on his clothes later).

20150228_194844

They were both so proud of their trucks and spent a lot of time playing with them over the weekend.

After the building workshop, we had just enough time for lunch before Adam’s final basketball game of the season.

20150228_122952

He played really well and does a great job communicating with his teammates and listening to the coach while he’s on the court.

2015-03-01 10.50.19

Saturday evening it snowed, and so we woke up to a full driveway on Sunday. And, in case you’re wondering, it takes about an hour and a half to shovel off our driveway.

2015-03-01 12.03.38

The weather cleared up enough for us to go to Adam’s basketball trophy ceremony in the afternoon though.

2015-03-01 14.47.56

They had a magician and all sort of fun things set up for the kids.

2015-03-01 15.13.14Luke was upset he didn’t get a trophy, but was very pleased with the cupcake he brought home. It was a very busy, but fun weekend.

20150227_223525

I’ll leave you with a picture of Princess Sassy Pants (since I just realized I don’t have any pictures of her in this post).
