Today 03.25.15

Today’s theme was “Around the World.” I admit, it had me stumped. My mom suggested making him a shirt with a map of the world on it, so that’s what we did. He was very happy with it and told me that no one else had a shirt like his.

I took Luke back to the doctor today to get his ears checked (again). He was complaining that his right ear hurt yesterday. I’ve also noticed that he doesn’t seem to be hearing very well lately, and so I didn’t want to wait until our follow-up at the end of next month.

The doctor said there is still fluid in both ears and that it could account for his trouble hearing. During the appointment she was able to see how he turns his head so he can listen with his left ear, and how he asks “what?” and “huh?” after things he should be able to hear with no problem. She gave us a referral for to see an Ear, Nose, and Throat Doctor and hopefully we’ll be able to get Luke fixed up soon.

What is not going to be fixed soon is our poor television.

Luke hit it with a toy bat. When I asked him why he said, “Because I wanted to play baseball and hit the ball.” I’m not sure if there was a ball on the TV at the time or not.

Someday, when he is a major league baseball player, this will be an amusing story told by the announcers between innings. (And Luke, if you do become a professional ball player, you owe us a new TV.)

It warmed up again today, so we were able to go for a nice long walk before we picked up Adam at the bus stop.

Maggie was coloring for a while earlier. When she finished she said, “ta da!” and held it up for me to see. She was so proud of herself – and rightfully so!

Pajama Day

Today was Pajama Day and Adam was thrilled. He’s been asking if he could wear his jammies to school since back in September when one of the first grade classes had a pajama day.

2015-03-24 07.04.56I love seeing how excited he is about these spirit days.

Super Kids

It’s Spirit Week at Adam’s school. So each day they are dressing up according to a different theme. Today was Super Heroes, so we dug out the boys’ capes and other accessories yesterday.

Adam was all set this morning when it was time to get ready for school. He’s even wearing Captain America socks and his Batman sneakers.

2015-03-23 07.08.25

He was super tired when he got home.

Saturday Stroll

Today was the first Saturday all year that we haven’t had something on our schedule. So we decided to visit the playground near our house. Adam walked the whole way there (0.65 miles).

He was too tired to walk back though, so we had to do some stroller rearranging.

Red Hat

Luke: Please, can I play outside?

Me: No, it’s too chilly.

Luke: But I have a red hat!

2015-03-20 14.10.04

Sort of hard to argue with that logic. I did veto playing outside last night at 10:30, even though he told me he had a flashlight.

A Little on Luke

Luke is crazy about this map fabric. He keeps calling it his “all the countries blanket”. Once the fabric I ordered for the other side gets here (a US map), then I really will be making it in to a quilt for him.

2015-03-19 21.39.35The other day he took all of the towels out of the drawer in the kitchen and used them to carpet the floor. I asked why he did it, and he gave me his standard Luke response, “Because I said so.” I guess maybe he’s heard that a time or two from me.

2015-03-19 07.46.12

When Luke is trying to get the attention of someone he doesn’t know, he will say, “Excuse me, Mr. Sir?” It’s pretty adorable.

Before & After

Adam told me a couple of weeks ago that he wanted to let his hair grow longer and have it cut with scissors. He changed his mind though and told me he wanted them to use the clippers.

20150319_174552He’s pretty happy with his new haircut, though he told me on the way home that next time he wants it cut even shorter.

I think he looks pretty handsome no matter how his hair is cut.

Some Adam Art

Adam brought these pictures home from school today.

The president lives in the white house. And the white house is white.

2015-03-18 16.27.50

The Statue of Liberty is in New York City. The statue of liberty is famous.

Jackie Robinson played baseball. Jackie Robinson died from a heart attack.

2015-03-18 16.28.06There is a flag on the moon. And the American flag has 50 stars and 13 stripes.

Adam said that they had to pick one famous American and three American symbols to write about. They were allowed to write whatever they wanted, but it had to be at least two sentences.

I think he did a great job.

Leprechaun Update

Adam told me last night that he might not be able to go to school today. He said if he caught a leprechaun, that he’d probably need to stay home with him.

2015-03-17 06.43.01

He was a little nervous about checking the trap this morning. When he did get close enough, he realized that we’d been outsmarted.

2015-03-17 06.43.14

The sneaky leprechaun made stairs out of gold coins and escaped. He couldn’t take the coins with him though.

2015-03-17 06.48.56

Adam was very excited when he realized they weren’t real gold, but foil wrapped chocolate. He counted them out right away to see if he had enough to take them to share with his class. I felt so bad when I had to tell him couldn’t (the leprechaun left the label and I was able to check the ingredients, unfortunately they weren’t safe for the two students in his class with peanut allergies).

That kid has such a good heart though. I love that his first thought was to check if there were enough to take to school for his classmates. I also love how he insisted on wearing all green today.

He’s already making plans for next year’s trap.
