Oh-hi-Ohio

Poor Maggie had to get two shots yesterday.

I knew that we’d probably have to wait, so I (unnecessarily) packed some snacks and toys to help occupy her and Luke. They play the weather channel on the TV in the waiting area and he now has a new favorite show.

Each time they pictured a close up of the map, he’d name the places he saw. He was so excited to see all the “states-es”.  Luke isn’t the quietest kid, and he definitely impressed the other people in the room. One lady asked his age, and if I “made him learn them”.

Um, no. That’s all Luke.

He’s crazy about his “Oh-hi-Ohio” puzzles (that’s what he calls the map of the United States). He likes the really big states the best and refers to Connecticut and Rhode Island as “little babies”.

Luke is pretty fantastic. Shots are not (Maggie agrees).

Abandon Cart

You know what’s really fun?

When you spend 45 minutes grocery shopping at the Wal-mart with two little kids.

You know what’s even more fun?

When you are almost done with your list and the fire alarms go off, forcing you to abandon your full cart and leave the store. It gets even better when your 3-year-old throws a fit (“my cart! my cart!”) and you have to carry both him and his sister out of the store, because he won’t walk and you no longer have “his cart”.

2015-01-29 10.13.37I have no idea why the alarm went off. I hope it wasn’t anything serious. I didn’t stick around to find out though. I loaded the kids up and we went to Target to start over.

Also, I always forget that Maggie has a leopard print coat when I dress her in those pants. However, I do feel that her outfit was totally appropriate for the Wal-mart.

Monkey Luke

Earlier Luke asked me if he could please have a banana, and eat it “like a big grown-up monkey.”

Normally he likes to have me cut his banana up, so he can eat it with a fork. So I was more than happy to have him eat the banana “like a big grown-up monkey” – less dishes and work for me.

I think he took the monkey thing a little too literally though, since I found this on the floor when he was done.

2015-01-27 17.36.56We need to work on that.

Basketball

Adam was up and dressed pretty early this morning. I’m not sure what time he actually got up, but it was 6:30 when he woke me to put his watch on him. I think we need to have a talk about not waking mommy before 8 on days that start with “S” again.

He had his first basketball game today. He’s number 7 on the orange team.

2015-01-24 12.29.55

He did a great job dribbling the ball and passing it. He didn’t make any baskets this game, but did get a few rebounds.

There are ten kids on the team and they each got to play two of the six minute long quarters. Adam really likes defense and does a nice job keeping his hands in the air and his feet moving.

We went out to lunch after the game and then home for some much needed rest time.

This Week

Maggie woke up super early one day and got to go with Adam and me to the bus stop.

2015-01-20 07.03.02

We had a couple of really nice days and were able to take the stroller to go get Adam in the afternoon.

2015-01-21 14.31.28

Luke got a new puzzle. Each time he got stuck, he’d say, “I never give up, I never give up.”

2015-01-22 11.23.01

And he didn’t give up.

Luke also had a doctor’s appointment to check the fluid in his ears, after his last ear infections.

Partners in Crime

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a picture of this little firecracker.

She’s been learning a lot lately from her buddy Luke (or “Ou” as she calls him). I love seeing the two of them play and laugh together, but let me tell you, mischievous does not begin to describe the two of them. They are fearless and sneaky, a combination that keeps me on my toes.

20150112_131143They are also sweet and adorable.

20150114_110152The fun they have together makes me so happy (even when it’s in the form or stealing cookies from the pantry or jumping on the bed).

K.5

Adam got off of the bus today and informed me that he’s halfway to being a first grader. Today marked the end of the second quarter and he’ll get his very first report card at the end of the month (kindergarten students get two a year). I’m looking forward to seeing it.

Pearly Whites

These two amigos had dentist appointments this morning.

2015-01-15 09.34.07

It was Luke’s first time at the dentist and I was a little worried about how he’d handle it. They don’t have the parents go in the room with them if they are over three. He did awesome though. Adam went first and was still back there when they took Luke, so I think that helped a lot.

Their teeth look great and neither of them have any cavities. My parents noticed during one of our visits that Adam grinds his teeth, but the dentist said he should outgrow that once he loses all his baby teeth and it isn’t something they are concerned with right now.

So I’d say that it was a successful trip. I think Adam and Luke would agree – they got new tooth brushes and stickers.
