My Two Sons

Dave’s paternity leave ended this week and so he started back to work on Monday. Adam runs to the door when he gets home and greets him with a very enthusiastic “Hi Dada!!”.  We’ve been spending our time watching the local wildlife and hanging out with Aunt Stacy. Here are some of my favorite pictures from the last several days.

The little dude was very excited to get his very own Adam-sized ice cream cone. You can also see the nasty bruise on his chin. We’re not completely certain how he acquired that one – we are about 97% sure that it happened when he was trying to avoid getting put in to his carseat and fell into the shifter.

Adam had a tough time with the ice cream cone at first, until I told him to “give it a yuck”. A “yuck” is one of Adam’s favorite things to do. Basically he comes up to you like he’s going to give you a kiss and then slobbers all over your face until you say “yuck”. It’s grossly adorable and it did help him figure out how to lick the cone.

Luke didn’t get any ice cream. The poor kid is also dealing with baby acne. Adam went through the same thing at his age (speaking of ages, can you believe Luke will be three weeks old tomorrow?! I can’t).

Adam is getting more comfortable with the idea that Luke is here to stay. He was so excited to sit next to Luke and hold his hand the other morning. And earlier today when Luke woke up from a nap in his swing and started crying Adam yelled “mama!” and sat right next to his little brother until I came to rescue him.

I really love that kid. He’s pretty much made of awesome.

Adam’s spent a lot of a past couple of days outside with Aunt Stacy. They played in the sandbox and water table, blew bubbles, and went for walks. Stacy left for home today and took Adam with her (we’ll pick him up this weekend). I wish I could say he cried and cried when they left because he wanted his mommy, but that would be a lie. Actually it would be two lies. He didn’t cry. He waved and yelled bye-bye mama out the window (he also said bye-bye to Dada and Bay-bee) and honestly I didn’t really want him to cry. I am glad he’s so comfortable with Aunt Stacy – even if he does like her more than me.

At least I’m still Luke’s favorite – if only because I feed him. Dave gave him a bath earlier and this is how he brought him back to me – all cozy in his pajamas and new bathrobe from Gram & Gramps U. Luke’s pretty much made of awesome too.

ROAR!

Note to self: When using a dinosaur finger puppet while playing with your toddler, don’t make the dinosaur pretend to bite him because your child might bite the dinosaur back, and it will hurt.

More than a quarter pounder.

Seriously, this kid gets cuter every single day.

He had a doctor’s appointment today – just a weight check.  He’s gained 6 ounces in the last nine days and is back up to 7 pounds 10 ounces – not quite back to his birth weight, but the doctor was pleased with his progress (Dave likened it to gaining a nice sized hamburger).

I don’t want to jinx it, but he’s such a good baby.  He only complains if he’s hungry or needs a diaper change and once you fix what’s bothering him he quiets right down. Last night he slept from midnight until 5 am.  He was up from 5 until 6, and then slept again until after 9.

He’s starting to be awake more during the day and loves to look around. Earlier Adam showed his favorite dinosaur book to Luke.

Right after this picture was taken he tried to share a little too much and actually set the book on top of Luke. Poor Luke was not impressed – apparently he’s not as in to dinosaurs as his big brother. It was nice of Adam to share though – however there is a chance it all might have been an evil plot just to get me to pick up Luke so Adam could steal his seat.

The Good

We did get some nice photos from yesterday’s photo shoot. The good ones aren’t as much fun to talk about though, so I’ll just post our favorites here and let them speak for themselves.

Ants in His Pants

Yesterday we attempted to have family photos taken. I say “attempted” because a certain almost two-year-old was a big ball of non-cooperative wild energy. He looked adorable and actually was well-behaved, but just wouldn’t sit still for more than 3 seconds. So most of the pictures of Adam looked something like this:

Or like these:

And if getting a picture of Adam was difficult, getting one of the two boys together was darn near impossible. They did get this gem, which I absolutely love. Doesn’t it look like Adam is about to tip poor Luke over?

We tried for a nice family photo as well.  And while it might not be the best picture of the four of us, it’s true to life and I wouldn’t trade my rambunctious little man for anything.

Night Night Turtle

I tried to get a nice picture of the boys together tonight.  Unfortunately these were the best of the bunch.

I think we’ll try again tomorrow.

We also set up Adam’s sandbox today. He’s pretty thrilled with it and I am sure it will get a lot of use this summer. He even gave the turtle a kiss and told it “night night” when it was time to come in for dinner.

Lucky Duck

On Thursday, June 9th we were blessed by the birth of our second child. Luke David was born at 12:55 in the afternoon, weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces, and measuring 20.5 in long (and of course, is absolutely perfect).

Dave and I are so thankful to get to be mommy and daddy to another little man.  I am sure once he’s a little older he and his big brother will give me a run for my money (and more gray hair).

But for right now I am just so happy that this little one is (finally) here.

And since he’s so adorable I’ll even forgive him for being 9 days late and forcing the doctors to go in after him.

Adam has been handling the loss of his only child status extremely well. He knows to be “gentle” around the baby and so far isn’t too jealous of the attention he’s been getting. He’s also done a great job of testing out all the baby gear for Luke to make sure it’s safe (sitting in his seat, wearing his hat, etc).

He gets a very concerned look on his face whenever he hears his little brother cry and earlier was more than happy to give a few kisses.

And he’s not the only one that likes to give kisses to this little guy. He might be only three days old, but he’s already one very loved baby boy.
